Field Craft
"The techniques involved in living in or making military
observations in the field." As defined by the Oxford English Dictionary.
While the ACF is not going to teach you to become a sniper or even the next James Bond, you will have the opportunity to take part in some field training exercises. It is only when you take part in fieldcraft that you learn true Teamwork, Self-discipline & Self-reliance.
"I've been in the ACF for 4 years now, the Fieldcraft lessons have helped me to become more confident in myself.
I am a Cadet Sargent and responsible for about 20 junior Cadets when we work in the field.
It's hard work but great fun."
"You get Cold, Wet, Muddy & you have to cook your own food … It's great I love it. "
Whether you are in the field for an evening, a day or a full weekend you will work hard but you will have fun. Most Cadets enjoy all the field lessons; it is only when you take someone out of their comfort zone
(PSP, MSN, Microwave meal's, comfy bed!) that you really learn how to become self-reliant.
During Fieldcraft you will practice a number of skills, ranging from general living in the field lessons (Why & how you keep your space clean & tidy) to basic and advanced navigation skills (To ensure you can find the pizza shop)
as well as all the different Fieldcraft lessons, ensuring you can live without all the creature comforts and without going hungry!
Safety is paramount within the ACF, however Fieldcraft is one of the more dangerous subjects that you will take part in during your time with the ACF. The use of pyrotechnics to simulate battle noises creates a danger in itself; it is for this reason you will be under the supervision of Adult Instructors.
Only highly trained and qualified Adult Instructors will carry out these lessons.
