Everybody has questions that they would like answered, but a lot of people don't ask them for fear of feeling stupid;
so on this page we have hopefully answered as many of your questions as we can.

Do I have to pay anything, and if so how much?
The short answer to this is yes there is a small charge. The cost of joining the Army Cadet Force is £15.00. This pays for: your Insurance while you are a member of the ACF, Your Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, and also enrolment, uniform and admin fees. This is a one of charge and is the same if you stay with us for 5 months or 5 years. Some Detachments have nightly subs, usually around 50p per night; this helps to pay for subsidised trips, and equipment within the Detachment.
What if I can't afford the Enrolment fee?
Go and speak to the Detachment Commander of the Detachment you want to join. You'll be surprised how often this happens, most Detachments will let you pay the Enrolment fee over a number of weeks. Some Detachments even have funds available so that the Enrolment fee is paid for you.
Do I have to buy my own Uniform?
Your uniform is provided for you as part of your enrolment fee, however when you leave the ACF it must be returned. The only item of uniform you have to buy is your own Boots. These should be of military type and can be bought from many of the Army Surplus store's found in larger cities, or direct from their web sites. A new pair of Boots will cost you around £40.00, for example Cadet Kit Shop. Also speak to your Detachment Commander, as Detachments often have boots given to them by Cadets who have left or out grown their old ones.
Do I Have to join the Army?
No. The Army Cadet Force is a youth organisation and you do not have to join the Armed Forces. A number of Cadets who leave at 18 do join the regular services, but that is through their own choice. The skills that you learn in the ACF will be of great benefit to any employer when you start work.
