Ask us!

I have Asthma can I still join, is there a medical?

You do not have to pass a medical to join the ACF. However there is a medical questionnaire that has to be completed by your parent/guardian and in some extreme cases your Doctor. Just because you suffer from a medical condition it does not mean that you can't join the ACF.Cartoon of a solider on a field telephone looking at a sheet of blue paper However it may be that you will be unable to take part in some of the activities on offer within the ACF, but this will depend on the nature and severity of your medical condition. The ACF is open to everyone regardless of ability.

How old do I have to be?

You have to be between the ages of 12 - 18 years of age and in Secondary education. If you are over 18 it may be possible to join as an adult instructor.

How often do I have to attend?

There is no minimum amount of nights you have to attend, however the more you attend the more you will get out of the ACF. As a general rule a Detachment parades 2 nights a week usually for 2 - 2½ hours per night. You will probably have the chance to attend 4 weekend camps and 2 week long camps, one at Easter and another during the Summer. (This will vary depending on the ACF unit you join)
